Christmas Party 2023 | IMEG GROUP

The IMEG Christmas party took place last Friday (15 December) and this year, for the first time, it was held in the capital.

And to kick things off, there's nothing better than a sunset on the banks of the river Tejo, with breathtaking views of our beautiful Lisbon.

We continued on to Sintra and the day culminated with the usual Christmas Dinner.

Vantagens e desvantagens do ar condicionado

Advantages and disadvantages of air conditioning

Portugal is one of the hottest countries in Europe - it is the 5th European country with the highest average annual temperatures, only surpassed by the Vatican, Greece, Cyprus and Malta, which is the country with the highest average temperature.

For this reason, the need for an air conditioning system in the home is high, as a fundamental tool for dealing with the heat, which can even be extreme in some periods and regions of the country.

We therefore show you the advantages and disadvantages of having air conditioning.

Advantages:

  • It works for any situation: it's a solution that works all year round, meaning that as well as cooling the house in summer, it also works to heat the house in the colder months;
  • It's faster: it cools the house quickly and persistently. Just press a button and in a few minutes you can keep your living space at the desired temperature all year round;
  • Can cool several rooms: this solution can air-condition more than one room (multisplit and portable).
  • It has multiple functions: as well as being able to regulate the temperature, it can also control the humidity, as well as the air filter. Of course, everything will depend on the characteristics of the model you choose, but today an air conditioner does much more than heat or cool the room, it can even improve the indoor air quality in the space where it is installed;
  • It's quiet: with constant technological innovations, air conditioning units are becoming quieter and quieter. Of course, this will also depend on the model you choose, but today there's no shortage of solutions that you won't even hear when they're running;
  • It's more energy efficient: air conditioning is the most efficient climate control equipment when compared to the other alternatives, i.e. it has the lowest ratio between energy consumption and equipment performance. Even so, when buying an air conditioner, favour a model with an energy label between A+ and A+++.

Disadvantages:

  • Requires greater initial investment: despite its many advantages, it is a solution that requires a greater investment.
  • It needs to be installed by an accredited technician: the installation of an air conditioner is complex and labour-intensive and should only be carried out by a specialised professional.
  • Requires more maintenance: It is necessary to carry out some maintenance on your air conditioning equipment and clean the filters periodically to ensure the best performance from the equipment.

Onda de calor? Eis como manter a casa fresca (de forma natural)

Heatwave? Here's how to keep your home cool (naturally)

Warmer days are here to stay and keeping the house cool can be more difficult over the next few days. Closing doors and windows, closing the blinds or using awnings are all solutions that help to maintain a more pleasant temperature inside the home.

‘When the sun is beating down, close doors and windows, close the blinds or use awnings. Tall plants near the window also help to create shade. With these gestures, you'll save around 30% of energy,’ says DECO Proteste.

Then, at night, open two opposite windows to create air currents and cool the interior of the house. ‘By cooling the walls, the house is better able to withstand high temperatures during the day,’ he adds.

‘If you are able to renovate your home, invest in improving the insulation of walls, ceilings and floors and always opt for the installation or maintenance of passive shading systems,’ the association recommends.

Activities to avoid At the hottest times, ‘put aside tasks that produce heat and vapour or contaminate the air, directly affecting its quality and renewal’: Cooking, ironing, smoking and using paints or glues are examples of activities you shouldn't do.

In addition, you should avoid ‘switching on too many appliances at the same time, such as lamps, televisions and computers.

The presence of people in an enclosed space increases the temperature. Even at rest, a user ‘emits’ around 80 watts. On very hot days and nights, wear light, cool clothes, avoid physical exertion and hydrate well.’
